911

I think we all know exactly where we were and what we were doing on that horrible Sept. morning six years ago. Our lives would never be the same, we would never feel really safe again. So many lives lost, so much damage done. I wrote a poem and would like to share it with you today.

America

Oh, beautiful for spacious skies
This land so dear to me
How could anyone be so cruel
A coward it must be

You can't destroy a land so great
No matter how you try
For America is in our hearts
We fly our colors high

More united from this awful act
We're Americans; proud and grand
We wept for the cruel injustice
Now its time we take a stand

From the rubble and destruction
An inner strength was born
Hear the chanting of "USA"
Beware, the eagle mourns

You have not heard the last of us
A country strong and free
You cannot break our spirit
Freedom is meant to be

Our Momma was sick with shingles on 9/11/01 and she was sitting right in our den in the front of the TV and she saw the destruction as it happened. She will never forget...Toni your poem is just beautiful.

You made a very beautiful poem. Something straight from your heart is the best way to pay tribute.

that is a beautiful poem, calico Mom. my Mom told me about how she got real upset that day. they watched on tv at work all day how awful everything was. when she was drivin' home from work, she saw a little tiny kitten on the expressway median. she did a loop around, came back, parked her car on the side of the road and tried to find the kitten. a policeman stopped and tried to help her find the kitten. they didn't. she said she sobbed all the way home 'cause she couldn't help all those poor, poor people, but she wanted to help that kitten and couldn't do that either. she went back a couple times, even took food, but it was just gone.

That poem is beautiful! Mom was finishing some college classes and didn't know what was going on. She got home and watched the towers fall and she kept watching the whole day. Dad was an over the road truck driver at the time and his work made them all come home and they stayed out for a few days! We shall never forget!
This day always bring tears to her eyes!
