Looking for springtime
I saw the snow fall
The above Haikus were written by me, Patches, as I wait for spring.
Mine Mom said, because spring is something we are all hoping for, she would bring spring into the house, while we wait for it to appear. She went to the big sale place and bought primroses in red, purple and yellow. She put them in baskets on the kitchen counter, behind the sink, so when she does the dishes she can see them. Later on, she will plant them in the ground. They smell furry nice and give us some spring cheer. She has to put all plants up though, bacause Mittens eats anything green.Mine Mom's sister-in-law made this quilt for her. She hand stitched the whole thing, and it took her a year to make. Mom is pretty proud of it, I am surprised she lets us sleep on it! It is called the log cabin pattern, because in the center of the quilt is a log cabin, like our cabin in the Big Piney Woods.

The other day I wrote about Spring. Mom said it was right around the corner, so I told Mistrie. Now, she too, is looking for it, around every corner, every tree, every bush. She checked really good in the woodshed, where she sleeps, and even went out to the big shed where Dad stores the machine that chews up grass and the water rider Mom calls a boat. She reports so far, no luck spotting it. She said she would keep an eye out, along with watching for birds, mice, blowing leaves, coyotes, peoples, bugs, in fact anything moving that she might chase and catch/eat. She hopes it won't be too long, she is sick of winters .Mistrie wants to thank all of you for the wonderful Haiku poetry you wrote her. She says she is fine, and maybe, someday she will come inside. The weather has warmed up and she is happy.

I am patiently waiting for spring. Mine Mom says it is "right around the corner," so, I looked in all the corners, but couldn't find it. I told her this, and she said, "Oh, Patches, that is just a saying." ......... I know... YOU said it, Mom!!! Now I am so confused, and to top it off, she said the groundhog did not see his shadow in A State Of Winter, so there won't be 6 more weeks of winter like in the States of the East. So, how many more weeks before spring has sprung, another of Mom's famous statements. And if spring is going to sprung, how will it do that? So....I sit here waiting for spring.......and if/when it sprungs, will I know it.....will I hear it....will I see it... will I smell it??
Mine mom says mine Dad is tired; and, guess what.... he gets paid to be 'tired. He has time to spend with us girls now, and give us more hugs, kisses, and Dad loves (them is different than Mom loves, cuz her loves on us even when we want to leave and do kitty things.) Mom is going to be 'tired starting in March and she is going to get paid, too! Wonder if us kitties will get paid when we get 'tired. We work hard, endlessly, to keep things in tip-top shape, and we don't get no week-ends off, or holidays either. I'm tired!!!
Mine Mom love candles. She has a Christmas candle she is still burning and it went sideways as it burned so she put it on the hearth of the hot metal fire box we use to heat the cabin when it is cold. Being the nosey kitty I am, I had to go over and sniff. She told me "NO," really loud, and said I would burn my whiskers off! She put it up so I wouldn't be tempted to sniff it and burn something like my little nose or whiskers, which I really need. I liked looking at the flame though; Makes me very drowsy. She told me, "fire has it's place." Guess fire can be a good thing or a bad thing.
Mine Mom says last night was the full moon. She says that is why I just won't settle down. I jumpy on the bed over and over, walk on the purrsons, cooing and making night noises.
Fairies...........I must wait and see what they want. I see them in mine eyes, with green and blue silken dresses and pointy feets. They hum fairy tunes to me to put me to sleep. I must try and stay awake..........
So many kitty blogs have been talking about Rainbow Bridge and the "cat who came before." Here am a picher of mine Mom and her very first gray boy, Mimi. He lived to be 12, quite old back in the olden days, when kitties wandered high and low and had all their private parts intact, which made them fight and yowl.( This picher was taken in Minnesota in her parent's yard.)
Mine Mom said the geese flew over the house in a great V formation, honking loudly the other day. I am looking for them. You can see the nest at the tip of my right ear.
wind. This battle will go on until the waters open, the trillums bloom, and the trees begin to leaf out. A victor will emerge, claim the nest, and for 28 days following the last egg laid, mom goose will stay on the nest (except for short spurts to feed.) If we are lucky, we will see the babies jump into the icy water, never to return to the nest.....until they, as adults, decide to stake a claim. Over the spring and early summer they will grow, amazingly fast, to become as large as their parents in 6 - 8 weeks!" They will leave their calling card all over our lawn, chase Mistrie if she gets too close, and march back and forth across the highway to where they spend their nights in the open field, coming back every morning. Cars come to a stop and watch the parade (as many as 22, three different families.) Then, as suddenly as they appear, they disappear...back to the lake? We don't know for sure, but they are always welcome in The Big Piney Woods Pond."
This is what it really looks like right now, but Mistrie found a dry spot. At least the sun is shining and the snow is melting.Mine Mom says when February comes, spring can't be too far away....let's hope. She also told us the geese are back! She saw five yesterday morning on the icy pond, lookin over the nest. Oh, boy, yeller babies ina spring!! Bet if you look close you can see the nest. It is straight above Mistrie's head on the far shore.....can you see it?

Mine Mom says we need a "ray of sunshine" here in A State of Winter. She found this picher of Mistrie last summer on the back deck. As you can see, Mom loves flowers! She is busy planning for the upcoming summer with catalogs and gardening magazines and already boughted morning glory seeds at Wal-Mart. (You can see Mistrie's bed behind the flowers.)
Mom said, "I am going out to meet the day." What duz this mean?
