Any Ideas?

Precious Squirt isn't eating real well although she seems to be feeling pretty good. I have the wet food I mix with water and she will lap up a little if I offer it to her on the bed. The same with some dry food, she will only eat it if I offer it and then only a few. She used to eat non-stop and I was thinking of not free feeding her, so this is so out of character. I don't think, if I didn't offer the food under her nose, she would eat. Am I being too impatient, seeing what she went through? Any insight sure would be appreciated as this worry wort mom would love to hear from you.

It took Chey months to really get her appetite back fully. She started eating and then she was very picky and it was very small amounts and for awhile mostly it was the bonito flake treats but I just wanted her to have calories. After about two months she was "normal" although after the first week I think she started eating "better" even if her appetite was off. I think you are probably about normal for the eating but if you are worried, have the vet check her over and check a temp to be sure there is no infection going on.

I'll set the kitties to purring that this is just normal healing process--but even if Chey is unusual in how long it took her to heal she shows it's possible to take time to get back to normal!

Princess ingested a styrofoam berry with a wire in it from a floral arrangement. (They are gone)It took MONTHS before she was back to normal. It is a slow, slow, process. One thing i noticed: her appetite would pick up when i boiled chicken. I think the scent whetted her appetite. We are purring hard for your girl.

Thanks so much, it puts my mind at ease. She is looking like her old self and is eating some. She is on antibiotics and the last time I took her temp (which she hates) it was normal. The incision looks great, the stitches come out next week (she is going to hate going back.)

My only suggestion is the stinkier the better...she may be a little afraid to eat and food might have to be VERY tempting.

YOu can warm up the wet food a bit, helps it smell more and may help stimulate her appetite.

I think like those who have had cats with tummy troubles come back slowly to eating normally. She has to heal up inside and she may have memories of eating and making her feel worse.

The only other things we can think of is baby chicken or turkey. We LOVE that, and Mom has used that a lot with tummy trouble kitties. She had a kitty swallow the lifting cord to a turkey, and after his surgery, that was one of the things they started him out on. You can also mix it with baby cereal, if you want a little more filler and calories. Mom also says boiled chicken is also a kitty pleaser.

We are purring that Squirt will be feeling better soon.
