Monday Mews

Here are some odds and ends, bits and pieces, of news from the Big Piney Woods:

Mittens is feeling fine. She thanks efurrycat for their well wishes.
The snow is melting fast, spring has sprung and now the sky is dripping a lot.
Momma figured out what was wrong with the Daylight, and it is working now. (A box wasn't checked that was apposed to be, in the adjust time zone settings. She is wondering how that happened to get unchecked because it has always worked afore.)
Mistrie came through the winter fat and sassy.
Precious only plays with macaroni and real live mothy miller bugs that come in on the wood.
Precious still give me fits, as she follows me all ofer and chases me, and bats my tail.
I saw a fairy yesterday in Momma's flower bed.

Mistrie Update

The snow on the benches of the back deck has melted off, so Mistrie is having fun running back and forth. The snow is still deep on the back deck, mainly due to the fact it slides off the roof, and piles up there. There is about a foot of snow left on the flat, although bare ground is showing under the trees. It is in the 40's and 50's every day now, and there are hundreds of robins around with the smell of spring in the air. Today it is supposed to hit 60!!!

Pee Ess: Momma downloaded the patchy thing from Microsoft to change our clock on this here computer, but it is still an hour off. Now the question, does she change it, or wait for three weeks and let it change itself?

Short Story

I wrote a short story several years ago, about two kittens and their adventures, and put it on my main website. I am sharing the link, today, with you. There is button that says next page at the bottom, the story is only four pages long. Just follow the link below. It is a story for children, but adults will enjoy it as well.

Patches(knockitoff) Here

The moon was shining brightly in the windows. It looked almost like day, making me want to howl. It happens you know, wanting to howl, even though I am a girl, and a Queen at that. I knew I would get in 33 1/3 kinds of trouble if I made much noise, so I jumped on Mittens, who was cuddled up by Momma. She got all freaky and stupid, growly and hissy. Of course, Momma woke up, and even before she knew what was really going on she yells, really loud, one of her names for me; Patchesknockitoff. Mittens went running like a wild woman under the rocker. Everything, of course, is ALWAYS, automatically MY fault. Well, if you are going to get blamed for something, you may as well do it. I think some famous person said that; if they didn't, they should have.

Mittens Here....

I just wanted to let you all know that I am OK. Please don't worry about me. Momma is so good to me, never gets mad, even when I make bad messes. She pets me, hugs me, and snuggles me, and talks to me, looking deep into my green eyes, that she says are so lovely. She breaks out the paper towels, and Nature's Miracle, and Woolite, or tosses the bedding in the big growling machine. Sometimes I see a tear in her eye, and that makes me sad, because this has been such a wonderful life, and I am hoping to be around a long time..

She says, if need be (I stress so bad at TED's) she will take me back in, right now she is going to wait and see.

To all my dearest furriends.......I want to thank you all for coming yesterday, it was wonderful; so nice to be so loved by so many. I appreciated all the nice treats, and sorry I couldn't eat any, but my diet is furry strict.

Innocence

Yes, I am sweet and yes, Patches likes to pick on me. Here I am, sitting by the A-frame. You can see how I have sharpened my nails on it, like the good girl I am, not like somecat (Precious) who sharpens on the good furniture. Now Momma has put ugly silver strips on the edges, after the orange spray didn't work too well.

I haven't been doing as well as before. Momma thinks it is hairballs (partly, anyway.) Thanks for your concern. Maybe time for a visit to T.E.D.

Our Bad Experience

When I first started, over a year ago, I had a terrible incident when our blog was highlighted on a local newspaper (in a good way.) Some people, who read the tribute to us, made jokes and got real nasty, talking about crazy cat bloggers. I got criticized for the spelling, bad grammar, etc. (I actually went through the whole blog, correcting spelling and grammar. It took me half a day, I was so hurt.) It was so upsetting I couldn't eat or sleep for days. Now I am so glad I didn't let this incident make me delete my blog, it would have been such a loss to me.

I read enough of the voting to see why people are upset, but it isn't catastrophic enough to make you stop blogging. Things got out of hand, yes. I guess that is why, when I do a contest, I specify cat bloggers only, one vote only, etc.

Those of you who quite because of this, we will miss you. The rest of you.......your cats are waiting to post and we are waiting to read what they have been up to!!!

Mu shue Pooh King Cat had a great idea. We need to each put out our paws and hug four other kitties. So we hug:
Edsel
The Meezers
Max and Buddah
Derby

Just my two cents, for what it's worth......

Our Squillions

Our Squillions are named Cloudy and Sunny. We adopted them from Bonnie and Victor last summer. They have been a wonderful addition to The Big Piney Woods Cats. Here they are on the dryer, helping Momma with the clothes.

When they first came, it was warm and nice outside, so Momma put them in a special spot in the flower garden. However, panic ensued when she couldn't find them anywhere. It seems they went visiting Mistrie in Hemlock Haven, and were subsequently grounded. I think they like it inside now, they would be buried under the ton and a half of snow we have.

Sorry this is late, Momma says "always a day late and a dollar short." She meant to help us with this yesterday, but the big storm of the century rolled in.

Is It REALLY March?

I know, many of you have flowers poking up, even blooming. Many of you have green grass and buds on tree, and birds chirping about how glad they are it is spring. Well, we don't care. We don't want to hear about it! Don't tell us it is raining at your place, like that will make us feel better. So, don't bother telling us, cuz we will ignore you.

The white frozen stuff fell from the sky for 24 hours, and when it was done, it was 3 cats high (about 12 inches.) Mistrie is confused and thinks winter has started up all over again. Daddy is outside with the big growling monster tossing the white stuff from one side to another. Momma is going out with a big spoon to clear the walkway. We are going to nap.

Mistrie Comes In!!!!!

Oh, it was the most citing night of all. Momma opened the door to feed Mistrie. Patches and I were sitting there, hoping for a handout. Mistrie saw us and came to the door; Momma opened it, and she came in! Yes, all the way! She has the loudest motor I have efur heard and she purred and purred while both Patches and I took turns nose touching, kissing, getting the smells of the Big Piney Woods from her fur. Momma didn't let her stay long, something about not wanting to start a cat fight. (She was talking about Patches.) It was a joyous thing!

Precious; On Ears

Have you thought about what strange ears the furless ones have. They aren't pointed (unless they are in a star trek movie) and when Daddy starts getting nice hairs in there, he pulls them out with the twe-sirs. Momma has holes in her ears with silver hoops in them that serve no purpose, except get caught on things. Their ears don't swivel at all, and I never see them washing behind them. I don't think they hear very well out of them, either, they are always saying "huh?" They can't flatten them when they get mad, they are just stuck in place. Momma puts hunks of dough in her's cuz she says our foolishness keeps her awake when she is taking her nighttime nap, but I think it is Daddy's night noise.

Vishus Moose

This moose is not only vishus she has a voracious appetite. She was eating on Momma's yew tree and Daddy had to go out and throw a cold, round ball of white stuff at her and then she just sauntered off like she owns the place. )I am sitting on the end of the couch, but you can't see me cuz the picher is too dark.)

Patches' Bed

First it was mine
From what I remember
It was bought for me
In 1999, September
(it was Oct., but that didn't rhyme)

I was new to the woods
And only two years old
The first of the cats
Or, so I was told

Now everycat has had a chance
To use it, you see
Mittens, Mistrie and Precious
Will all agree

It is comfy and soft
The right size and height
And just cuz I wouldn't use it
Doesn't give them the right

To take it from me
To enter my space
For it is mine
And that is my case

Mittens' Bed

This is my bed
Soft and round
It's great for naps
Is what I've found

Or a long winter sleep
In this greary season
And hiding from Precious
Is another reason

I curl up here
Away from it all
In my closet haven
Until nature calls

Sad Day For WMD

Momma lit a candle last night to help Eddie, William's bro, on his way to the Bridge. We all stared into the flame, and wished him well, on his journey. We know it helped because the flame flickered, as we watched it. Then we bowed our heads. It is a sad time. We send special purrs to his Momma.

Looking For Green

Momma told me spring is coming. She knows this because the geese are back! I am looking for ANYTHING green that might be poking up, but all I see is white and brown. The only green I see is the pine trees, and they are always green! Is it spring and green at your house?

Getting To Know You

Beezie came and bisited me in the Big Piney Woods, yesterday. We had so much fun. We got to know each other better, and we danced the Hokey-Pokey, (he is a fantastic dancer.) I showed him all my toys and he went to the top of the climbing tree. We napped in my favorite chair, too.

He met the rest of the fambily. Patches and Mittens were very nice, and Mistrie showed him her hideouts outside. When we were outside a vishus moose was out on the ice of the pond! We ran fast. Do you know, are vishus moose worse than vishus deer?

Daddy couldn't see Beezer, because Daddy doesn't believe in teleporting and you have to believe! It is kind of like, Daddy can't see the fairies, either; Momma can, though.

Beezie is such a gentlemancat and even kissed my pawsie. He whispered in my furry ear, "you are so purty." He was pretty surprised by all the snow, too. Oh, and he gave me a kitty kiss, afore he left.

Momma says he can come bisit anytime.

An Invitation

Precious: Momma, can I invite Beezie over to The Big Piney Woods to bisit with me?

Momma: Sure, sweetie.

Precious: Momma, will you brush me nice and put my pink ribbon on. I promise not to take it off?

Momma: Sure, sweetie.

Precious: When I am all ready, will you please call up Beezie on the talking machine, Momma?

Momma: I don't know his number, sweetie, but I will email his Momma.

Precious: Thank you, Momma, I am going to go watch out the window. I hope he doesn't get lost. The Big Piney Woods can be a scary place. Do you think he knows how to teleport, Momma? Maybe Daddy can go put some signs out. Do you think he will come, Momma? Do you think he will Hokey-Pokey with me? Oh, what if he doesn't come, Momma?

Momma: Settle down, Precious, I bet he will be here before you know it. Go and look out your window and calm down!

Precious: OK Momma.

Meezer Nieces At Home

Momma realized The Meezer Twins aren't our cousins, they are our nieces. It doesn't matter one bit, they are dolls. Momma and Daddy went bisiting them the other day. Momma tooked pichers, but she says, she doesn't know who is who. Can you see a difference? (They are sleeping in the woofies toy box! Momma made them a nice wicker basket bed she is going to give to them.)

They are both so cute and sweet. Momma says she will update with new pichers, as they grow into big Meezers, like Sammy and Miles.

Come play with me
We can run and jump

Are great fun, too
But the very best thing
Is playing with you.

Practicing

I am getting this left and right thing down. Here I am dancing the Hokey-Pokey, in anticipation of going to a dance with Beezie, maybe.

Put your left paw in
Put your left paw out
Put your left paw in
And you shake it all about
You do the Hokey-Pokey and
You turn yourself around
That's what it's all about.

Sunny Spot

Yes it is
The sun, you know
I can tell
By the yellow glow.

This is a month
Of clouds and cold
So a sunny day's
Worth it's weight in gold.

Find a spot
In a sun-filled room
It helps to chase
Away the gloom.

A nap is good
A nap is great
In a sunny spot
I can hardly wait.

Duct Tape

Momma says here, in a State of Winter, everything worth fixing can be fixed with duct tape (and WD-40.) The uses, according to her, are endless but here are a few to help you out. In general, you can use it for anything you need to nail, tape, mend, sew, glue or staple.

1. Wrapping packages that you mail
2. Fixing your shoe leathers
3. Holding Christmas lights up (inside and out)
4. Keeping cold from coming in around windows
5. Holds your bumper in place till you get the new one
6. It's better than cellopane tape and comes off easier
7. Mark trees you want cut for firewood
8. Mend screens
9. Mend broken windows
10. Mend fences (not the broken kind you have with your neighbor, though)
11. Put on your dog's tail just for the heck of it and watch it swing

What do you use duct tape for?

On another note, does anyone have any idea how to stop Precious from sharpening her claws on the furniture? Momma says the "know" word and moves her paws off, placing them on the scratching post. She just goes back, and she is using all the furniture. (Maybe that would be another use for duct tape.) Has anyone tried Feliway?

Aris-toe-cat Names

Everyone is getting their aristocratic names done. So, here are ours. As you can see, Precious, aka Squirt got two! Momma likes the purple part in her name, very fitting, she says. (Momma loves purple.) So, now, we would like the respect deserving of our names. Thank you very much.

Mittens..... Her Grace Lady Mittens the Funereal of Chalmondley St Peasoup
Mistrie...... Lady Madame Mistrie the Imaginary of Piddletrenthide on the Carpet
Precious.... Duchess Precious the Subservient of Featherstonehaugh St Fanshaw
Squirt....... Entirely Miss Reverend Lady Squirt the Purple of Hopton Goosnargh

Changes

Momma decided, because things have changed here in the cabin in the Big Piney Woods, since she helped us start this blog, it needs to be updated.

The name has changed from The Calico Girls to The Big Piney Woods Cats, to include all four girls; although the url remains the same. (http://thecalicogirls.blogspot.com/) You can change your blogroll, if you like, to The Big Piney Woods Cats.

While we will all be blogging, Mittens is a senior catizen now, and needs more rest. Precious has taken over a lot of her posting duties.

Momma updated each of our profiles in the sidebar, with a short history of how we came to live here. She changed our main profile picture to an outdoor picture of the Big Piney Woods, and the name we will be using to sign comments is Big Piney Woods Cats.

We hope you like the changes. Momma hates change and it took her a long time before she finally went along with the plan. She was going to call it The Big Piney Woods Girls, but then, you never know.......maybe someboy cat will join us, someday. She says, this way, she has covered all the bases.

George Foreman

Gemini figured out who took off the pillow tags, and Miles concurs. It wasn't Momma, it was Lazy Susan, and that is why she is hiding in the cupboard. Whew, what a relief, Momma won't be prosecuted, after all. I found her, and she wasn't spinning, but sitting there holding up all sorts of things, pans, waffle iron, mixer, and George Foreman. I have heard this George is REAL heavy, so, even though Susan is lazy, she must be strong.
