Going On A Short (I Hope) Break

I have something ongoing with my stomach (possibly acid reflux) and I have been pretty sick since Sue left. Thank goodness I was OK while she was here, but two days ago I went to the Dr. and got some Prevacid. Hoping it helps, no fun being nauseated all the time. So.......I have to take some time off, until I am feeling better.

If anyone has experience with it, I would appreciate hearing.

Our Uncle takes Prilosec for acid reflux and he has also taken Nexium. No experience with Prevacid. Mom's isn't bad enough for Rx so she just takes Pepcid Complete when she needs it.

We all hope you're feeling better soon. Acid Reflux is miserable. Fortunately, it is easy to control once you find the meds that work best for you!

I have acid reflux & it burns my gut & base of my throat. I take Prilosec OTC ( with my doctors ok) every morning and it works fantastic for me. But if I somehow forget my morning dose, I find out about it really fast! Hope you find a solution for whatever it is!! -sss's mom

We've no experience with any of the medications. We do have patients on them. No one has really complained so much about nausea as they have about the pain.

We hope that you get better.

i used to take Prevacid and it worked wonderfully. I would wake up at 2am with my throat burning and I would be gasping for air. I now take Prilosec OTC every other day (unless I have something with tomatoes in it) and it works great too. I hope you feel better soon Toni! - MeezerMomMary

2 different solutions:
I had trouble for a while and took Prilosec and it seemed to work pretty well. Coincidently I also gave up diet soda (and all soda) not long after that for another issue all together. As I found I am allergic to aspartame and it was causing migraines. Recently my mother also had bad stomach trouble and after trying EVERYTHING was told by a friend to go off every artificial sweetener (Splenda especially) and it worked! I'm thinking the same thing did it for me a year ago with the aspartame.

2. My husband has had more stomach troubles as he's gotten older but noticed something in the past few years, it has decreased as he has stopped eating tomatoes. (I'm allergic :p so I don't fix them in anything.)

Hope this might help, it is possible you are having an allergic reaction to something. It could be a resent development even. Best recommendation, try cutting out certain foods/food groups for a week at a time and see if it makes a difference.

I hope you feel better soon, Toni. Prilosec OTC is what I've found best, just keep in mind that it takes a few days to really work fully.
I'm so glad you had a good time with Sue. :) That's the best part of all this online stuff -- meeting and making great friends.
*hugs*

Hoping you feel better soon. Isn't Previcid the medicine that is supposed to heal erosions? If it is, I took that for quite some time and it really helped me a lot (I get a lot of heartburn).

The Woman is on Prilosec every day. She figured out pretty quick that she *has* to take it on a completely empty stomach first thing in the morning and wait 30-60 minuted before having anything, even a drink...which about kills her because she's an addict about a fizzy drink in the morning.

When it was really really bad, before she started the Prilosec, she went to the ER because she was pretty sure an alien was trying to rip through her gut, and they gave her a GI Cocktail... It calmed everything down really well, and then with being on the Prilosec religiously, her problems are under control.

Maybe ask your stabby person about a GI Cocktail? It's Maalox, Lidocaine, and something else (anti-sposmotic? We're not sure.)Doesn't taste good going down, but it sure kills the pain.

If that doesn't work, maybe it's your gallbladder?

I'm not a doctor.... but maybe its a fur-ball.

Here is what I do. I eat some kitty grass and throw it all up. On the carpet. Not the tile floor, cuz it won't count.

Mommy has a reflux. It's a souvenir of radiation therapy. She gets nauseaus and feels like she has to burp but can't. She's tried all the drugs and found that Pepcid works the best for her.Of course stress makes the reflux worse.
PS Momy gets headaches from diet soda too.

Well, now I'm laughing at Beezer's comment, that is too true.

My hubby has always had terrible stomach problems. He is on RX prevasaid (hope I spelled it right) and he says it is great. He tried the OTC and it just didn't work.
Another thing he takes is phenergen (again, my drug spelling is terrible). It's an older medication and is used to sedate the stomach.
If you need to talk to him about it, his email is sherwoodc AT sbcglobal.net. He went through about ten years of finding the right combination.
