From... A State Of Winter, United States
Once upon a time, in the far north reaches of Idaho, in a place called The Big Piney Woods, there lived four cats. Three lived inside the cabin; there to be loved, honored, and waited on. One chose to live outside, in the magical woods; there to be loved, honored, and eat mice. This is their blog, as told by them, in smart kitty fashion. You must overlook grammer and spelling; they are cats, after all. You will find their pictures and stories below, in the order they came here, to become part of our family.

Name...Patches Lady
Patches was dropped off in our driveway, on a beautiful fall day in October, 1999. She was two years old, very friendly, and
immediately became queen of the house. She is very vocal; letting me know what is right, what is wrong, and what she wants.
Name...Mittens Pollypaws
Mittens was brought into the shelter, where I did volunteer work, in September, 2000. She was about seven years old. She growled, hiding
under the bedding. Knowing everyone wants purring kittens, I took this polydactyl home to join Patches. She is a biscuit making, purr
machine, older now, spending most of her days sleeping.

Name...Mistrie Rose
This sweet, semi-feral torbie has lived in our woodshed, and under the deck since the summer of 2004. She is very tame now,
and lets me pet her, all the while giving me headbutts and purrs. She is a big love, preferring to live outdoors. She has two covered beds under
the deck, and two blankets up in the wood, and plenty of food and water. We love to watch her, playing with the fairies, on a summer afternoon.
Name...Precious Flower (aka Squirt)
A tiny kitten herself,( 8 - 9 months) with two kittens of her own, I found Precious, a silver tabby, in the woods, a mile from our home, starving.
Her kittens, who appeared very healthy, disappeared, after I caught her.
I went back over and over, trying to find and catch them; I am hoping they found a good home.
She has joined Patches and Mittens, in the house (late August, 2006.)

"Patches, I KNOW you did it, you have done it before, two other times to be exact. When Daddy goes fishing and stays overnight. Don't give me that innocent look."
"Max told me to do it," I explained, as I felt my tail move on it's own.
"Dont blame Max," she almost shouted at me."
"Maybe Mistrie got in and did it," I said, a little louder. I could feel my tail growing longer.
She just looked at me, shook her head, and got a paper towel.
Oh, well, I always wanted a long tail, like Buddah.

Momma and Daddy decide to stay home this year for the 4th of July. The Girl-daughter and the little girl wafer are coming from Winnemucca, Nevada, and the other Girl-daughter and her husband and the little boy wafer are coming from Hauser Lake with their trailer. Then the Boy-son and his wife from Sugar Mountain are coming and, maybe, the Boy-son from Bear Butte Road. Are you confused yet, we are!! Mittens said she is going to hide........not me, I love company!

Momma was watering her many flowers, which Daddy says there are WAY too many of, because how are they going to be able to go camping now? He says you can't expect the neighbors to spend a bazillion hours watering your stuff. So does that mean they won't be leaving to go camping like they usually do every summer, for the 4th of July family celebration??? Stay tuned.......

Sometimes naughtiness just takes over my life. Take last night, for example. At 2:00 AM I just had to get them up. I was up, they should be up, too. Mittens was snoring away next to Momma, she is safe there. I tried all the tricks, yowling by the food bowl downstairs, walking on them, licking them, talking away. It didn't work, Momma just yelled at me to shut up and stop it.

Momma said yesterday was the longest day of the year. I thought all the days were the same length. I may have to adjust my naps....... possibly, maybe take more. She said Dec. 21 is the shortest day. I suppose my naps will be cut in half then!! I feel tired thinking about this.Mittens Pollypaws

Mistrie has two new best friends. They are Princess Mia and Gree. She spent a lot of time with them at the Catolympics, and they forged quite a furrendship. Mistrie took them out in the woods and showed them some hunting tricks. Mia told her all about the big city of Houston, Texas and her Dad's BBQ skills. Gree shared adventures at the House Of The (Mostly) Black Cats and what went into making their new blog. They even had breakfast on the deck the next day. Mistrie says Mia and Gree can teleport over anytime. Momma is calling them "The Happy Threesome."

Lighting Ceremony Pictures
The lighting ceremony for the Catolympics last night was viewed by thousands as ESPN filmed the event. Go to the Catolympic Site and follow the exciting events as they unfold today.

He was pretty tired, so had a nice long nap.
After he napped, the four of us got together on the stairs; Mistrie even came in.
(Max has taught us a lot. He is one crazy cat!!!)

Yipee, the torch arrived. After many miles and many cats passing it on, it finally has arrived at it's final destination. Here are pictures as things unfolded.
Mittens and Patches wait patiently.
Mistrie hears lots of noise as Max and an entourage of excited participants, family and friends enter the Big Piney Woods.
Max, oh Max.....you have arrived!!!!!
Mistrie takes the torch over to the main Catolympic Center where the cauldron is. She will set it in a holder until tomorrow night's lighting ceremony.
After safely putting the torch in it's holder, we welcomed Max with lots of stinky goodness, fresh water, and crunchies. Full report on Max's visit tomorrow. We hope Max will stay here rather than teleporting home, until after the nap-a-thon.

Excitement
Patches and Mittens told me today is the day! This is so exciting; imagine the torch coming to me!!! Imagine!! What an honor.
I am patroling the yard, making sure it is in tip-top shape for all the company. I have warned the geese to be on their best behavior, they tend to poop all over the place. They are molting right now, I had to pick up feathers they dropped all over.

Momma told Sunny and Cloudy (she calls them The Twins) they could go outside, sit on one of her flowersbeds and, maybe, watch for bugs. They were more than happy to oblige. One minute they were there, the next they were gone! Momma is out looking all over for them. She said she shouldn't have let them out so soon after getting here. She hopes Victor's Mom isn't upset with her leaving them out when they are still so little and new.

I am watching and waiting for Sunny and Cloudy to come from Victor and Bonnie. They got them at the Green Wall Garden Ornament Shelter, put them in a kennel, and shipped them to us!!!

This is exactly why Momma can't have ANY plants in the house, anymore. She used to have 50 of them, yes, F-I-F-T-Y!!! She counted them. She had a garden in the dining room of their other house. (This was before I came to live with them.) There were pretty rocks, pinecones, bird nests, mosses, driftwood. There were hanging ferns and even a resident cricket that would sing to them. Now Momma has 2, yes, T-W-O, both of them up high so Mittens can't gnaw on them. I think a floor garden would be super, but it isn't going to happen, Chew Queen saw to that.

Momma says she has another pet she calls Unea. She gives it water everyday and feeds it once a week. Poor thing, must really get hungry. Well, I better not find any of my stinky goodness missing. I guess I need to start counting cans. I am not sure I like the idea of another pet, but as long as it stays outside.....Momma says it likes the rain!!!

My Dad is a good napper. He never admits it, though. When Momma asks him, "honey are you asleep," when he is all snorey in his blue chair, he will always say, "no, just resting my eyes." So, I am not sleeping, I am resting my eyes.
