New Years Eve

I can't quite figure out this new year thing. Why do we need a new year? What is wrong with the year we have? Did it wear out, or get old, or sick, or just tired of being our year? From what I have heard, no year stays around for more than 365 days. Must be a tough job. And where does the old year go?

Life Is Good

What could be better
Than a cat on a lap
Why, two cats, of course
taking long winter's naps

What could be better
Than two napping cats
Why three furry felines
Snoozing on mats

A lap and some cats
The more cats the better
In the cold days of winter
You won't need a sweater

Whose Fault Was It?

I was helping Momma with our blog today. I guess I hit the wrong key because boxes came hurling out of cyberspace, all over the screen. Momma moved my head off the offending keys, and when she did that, she hit something on the table that made a scary noise, and I freaked. I dug my hind claws deep into her thigh and flew away. She said the bad "darn it" word as I jumped to safety. Now, whose fault was it I drew blood; mine or hers? I say hers, she should know better than to interrupt me when I am blogging. Just look at my picture; you can tell I am innocent.

But, I am sorry I scratched you Momma.

I Beg To Differ

Patches has been giving me a lot of guff about my toesies. She says they are gineormous. I think they just fit me. Momma says I will grow into them. I am going to be a large cat, she says. All the more to keep Momma warm on these cold Piney Woods nights. I am now bigger than Patches and almost as big as Mittens and still growing!

Playing

Precious and I are having fun with our new Christmouse toys. We got lots of micey's from Sue in the UK. We also got nip packets from Jeri of Safe Haven for Cats (go visit her if you never have, she is saving the lives of thousands of kittens.) Edsel gave us some kitty treat mix, Momma has to bake for us. Come on, Momma get cooking!!! Thanks everyone!!

I think Precious has very large feet for a girl. Look at my dainty toes and look and her gineormous paws. Just an observation...............

My Favorite Things

Momma loves that song, especially the "whiskers on kittens" part.

So, here are a few of my favorite things.

  • Every morning, after being in the bedroom all night, I am very lonesome. As soon as Momma sits down, with her coffee, I jump up on her lap. She says "biscuit time" to me, I get comfy, and knead and knead, and purr and purr.

  • I love to roll either Momma's chapstick tube or marker pen, back and forth, to my Daddy. He pushes it to me, and I push it back to him. I am not as good at it as he is, and sometimes it goes croocked. If it falls on the floor, I have to attack it.

  • My fev-vers on a stick are stored in a big cabinet, next to my Daddy's chair. If he won't start dangling it for me, I go into the cupboard and put it in my mouth, depositing in his lap. Does it get any clearer than that, Daddy ?

    Shortest Day

Momma said yesterday was the shortest day of the year. It sure seemed the same as all the other days, here in the Big Piney Woods. I took all my required naps, had my love session and nap with Daddy, napped on Momma's lap, had my treats and meals, watched out the window, got pestered by Precious (a lot) and meditated. Same as any other kitty day.

    Christmas Miracle

    Once upon a Christmas night
The countryside, all soft and white
    Barren fields, awash in light
From a star above, so very bright
    *
    All the animals gathered round
For in the woods, many critters abound
A tiny kitten lies on the ground
    Weary from his travels, found
    *
A path to a cottage on the hill
    Following the sparrows trill
A dish of food upon the sill
As happily, he ate his fill
    *
    Then the door opened wide
And much to his wondrous surprise
    "Welcome," said the ones inside
"Yes, the animals were your guide"
    *

    "Climb upon the windowsill
    Look upon the distant hill
Outside in the snow, so still
The animals all wish you well"
    *
"There is a bed, by the Christmas tree
From hunger and cold, you now are free
We know, you surely will agree
Our furrever kitten, you will be "

    It's Been A Year!!

Today it has been a years since Momma started this blog for me us. We have had a lot of fun, and met so many wonderful kitties. When we started, there were about 40 of us, now there are so many, we have lost count, but I would guess 200. So many, we don't even have time to visit everyone each day. Here's to many more blogging years!!
Love you all! Purrs and headbutts....

    A State Of Winter

This is what we see out the front window.
Momma calls it a marshmallow world.
Looks just plain cold to us.

    Rainbow Bridge

The picture below is Momma, (taken in about 1946) as a little wafer, with her gray, boy cat, Mimi. She said he lived for 12 years, a "ripe old age" back then, when kitties weren't taken to the vet very often. He let her dress him in doll clothes and when he had enough, he would growl, but never scratch or bit her. He would sit below her and when she said "jumpy high" to him, he would jump up on her chest, so she could catch him. She loved him very much, her first puss.

There have been so many kitties go to Rainbow Bridge in the past year, since we started blogging. Momma wrote a poem for her friend, Sue, from England, when her sweet, loving. 18 year old Harriet went to Rainbow Bridge. It is below the picture, and goes out, now, to all those who have lost a best friend.

    An angel sent from heaven
    That's really what you were
    We miss everything about you
Your heart was warm and pure

But the angels only lent you
To us for those sweet years
And now they called you home again
And we are left with tears

And memories to hold on to
    That somehow get us through
    We feel your presence everywhere
    In everything we do.

Sweet kitty, we will miss you
Though time shall ease the pain
    And someday in the future
    We shall meet again.

    Toes In The Snow

    Momma knows where I've been
And where I plan to go
She says it is due to
    My toes in the snow

She knows I'm in the woodpile
    When the cold winds blow
She says it is due to
    My toes in the snow

She says they are my calling card
When I'm walking to and fro
She says it is due to
    My toes in the snow

    Precious' Purrthday

The vet told me that Precious was between 8 and 9 months old when I found her in the woods, the first of September. I picked today to celebrate her first purrthday. Happy Purrthday, tiny girl. You have been such a splendid addition to the Big Piney Woods Cats, and your Daddy and I love you so.

    More Winners

Concatulations to Finnegan and Buddy, the winner in our second challenge. Because The Meezers answered about 5 minutes later, Momma decided to give them second place of $15.00.

    Finnegan and Buddy
want their donation of $25 to go to: The Meezers
The Meezers want their donation of $15 to go to: Brandi and Her Momma

Momma says that is just plain wonderful! Two very deserving Mommas and their kitties. (Both Mommas are looking for jobies.)

Momma posted a summertime picture of me. She said she is already sick of winter and it has just started. You can see her reflection in the window

    Another Challenge

Momma is issuing another challenge. This time, you must answer questions about us. The first person to answer them correctly wins $25 to the animal charity of their choice, or some furless one or kitty who needs help with medical bills. Please post your answers in the comments.

    1. Three of us have pink noses, one has black. Who has the black nose.
    2. What state do we live in?
    3. One of us has extra toes, who is it?
    4. We live in a cabin the the Big___________________ (fill in the missing two word)
    5. One of us lives outside, who is it?
    6. Who was the first one to call this her furrever home?
    7. Who is pictured above?
    8. Who is the youngest?

UPDATE: Finnegan and Buddy are the winners. Because The Meezers came in so close behind, we decided on second place of $15.00. Both of you need to email us and tell us where to send the donation. We want to post that tomorrow.

    Note from Momma:
I spent all day trying to sign comments, only to have them be rejected. I do have a google email and did get a few comments posted. So far, I don't like the new improved version and won't be switching unless they make me.

    Chapped Toes

Since it got cold and snowy, Momma has been rubbing some grease on her heels, before she puts her socks on. She says it is dry in the house and that is what causes the sparks to fly, whenever I sniff something or when Momma pets me. The other day, I was on the bed, when Momma was dressing. She put this grease on my toes!!! She calls it Basoline......I call it Plain Nasty Stuff. She said my pads looked chapped. I immediately cleaned it off. Don't touch my toes with that nasty stuff ever again!! (You can see how mad I am.)

    My Challenge Answered

Here is my challenge, answered. It was issued by the Meowers of Missouri. If I write a poem about my Daddy, they will send $15 to the charity, or needy person, or kitty of my choice. (If my challenge is accepted, I would like to donate to Brandi and her Momma.)

We are issuing a challenge tomorrow, that goes out to everyone with a cat blog.

    My Daddy

Momma brought Patches in the house
And asked if she could stay
Daddy thought a short, short time
    And then he said, OK

But only one he told her
    One cat is sure enough
She agreed and smiled at him
    She knew he wasn't tough

Momma brought Mittens in the house
And asked if she could stay
    Daddy thought a longer time
    And then he said, OK

But only two he told her
    Two cats are sure enough
She agreed and smiled at him
    She knew he wasn't tough

Momma brought me in the house
And asked if I could stay
Daddy took one look at me
    And then he said, OK

But only three he told her
    Three cats are sure enough
She agreed and smiled at him
    She knows he isn't tough

    New Fev-Ver Toy!!

Here I am, on my Daddy's lap, playing with my new fev-ver toy.

The Meowers from Missouri have issued a challenge to me. It is a poem about my Daddy. I will have to get busy.

    Way Up High

I am the first one to scale the cat tree, all the way to the top. There are seven levels. Mittens has scaled to level three. Patches goes up to level six. When I get way up high like this, I can see everything that is going on.

If I do a long stretch, I can reach the twister rod to the Venetian blinds. I can get it swinging really good. It is just another of my marvelous feats. Momma says I am a little explorer.

    Mittens Here.......

I was feeling good last night, so I jumped on Momma's lap while she was on the computer. Then I started "getting into stuff." She didn't even care and just gave me a hug. She said something about "being my old self."

    My Daddy

At first I was afraid of my Daddy. He was big and he kind of reminded me of the Bad Man that dropped me off when I was going to have kittens, in the Corner Woods, where Momma found me. He spoke soflly to me for many days, but I still ran. Then...........he started to PLAY with me! He had a bookmark with a tassle on it, and he would spend hours moving it around and I would bat it and pull on it, and he would laugh, and I knew, then, he was a good man. He is my play buddy now. I sit behind him on the couch and touch his ear so he knows I am there and in a "playing mood." I pulled the tassle off, so Momma bought me a fev-ver on a stick! It is the bestest toy ever. Daddy calls me his "play cat." I can tell, he loves me, too!
