There is the strangest noise outside, that starts up at dark, and goes until about 3 every morning, keeping Momma awake. It is as annoying as when Daddy does that gurgle thing in his nose and throat when he sleeps. They don't know what it is, very loud and it sounds like a cross between a duck honking and some sort of scraping. It happens in groups of 6 or 7, every 20 seconds or so! Momma used ear plugs last night. Any idea on what it could be???Mittens Pollypaws

Cicada? Frog? Bof sound furry strange if you nefur heard them before. Maybe Mistrie knows.

Bonnie: Momma and Daddy have lived in the country/woods all their lives, and believe me that is a LONG time, and they have never heard this noise before. We think it is the ghost of the Big Piney Woods.

sounds like a furry scary noise - one that we would not like to hear. we has no idea what it would be - we live in the 'burbs, so we don't get noises like that, that aren't made from a machine. Sammy

Could it be a frog or bug of some kind?? Some kind of nocturnal animal...a opposum, raccoon? Weird! Keep us updated and let us know if you figure out what it is?!
We talked to our beans and they think it might be deer or maybe a moose 'coughing'. They're pretty sure it's a mating thing. It can sound scary when you hear it, even if you know what it is.

Thanks to effurcat who left suggestions. We don't have possums, either, but we do have a raccoon and they eat Mistrie's food. Daddy says he knows all the different sounds deer and moose make (and we do have those) Momma says it sounds kind of like a bird, she suggested owl, but Daddy didn't think so.....For now, it is the ghost of the Big Piney woods..

We heard stories about this creature with big feets in your part of the country. Are you sure it isn't that. Whatever it is, stay inside and keep Mistrie real close to the house.
(Our kitty dad says you may need to set-up an outdoor camera system to really find out the cause of the noise.)

We vote for an owl of some kind. They make all kinds of different strange noises. At least it's not a screech owl. They make a screaming sound like someones gettin' killed. Furry scary.
