Derby's Party

Derby is having a great Purrday Party for all Oct. kitties. (Me and Patches, and also Mistrie, celebrate our gotcha day on Oct 8th.) Head on over there, I hear it is a party to beat all parties. I am still not feeling great, so I don't think I will make it, though.

What Do You Think?

I have always been the boss. Now this little pest comes around and she isn't even afraid of me. I chase her and she comes right back, then she hides behind the wall and shakes her butt and acts like she is going to attack ME!!!! What do you think?

Precious Reports.......

I am getting brave, and starting to come out of the bedroom. Yesterday, I was sitting in the windowsill, in the diningroom, and Patches came over to me and stood up, so we could nose nuzzle. I am not quite sure if I trust her, she batted her paw at me the other day, and all I wanted to do was snuggle. I saw Mistrie outside last night, so I stood up and we played pawsies through the glass. She is so nice! Mittens, on the other hand, growls and hisses at me, but I know she has been sick.

Momma is going to an Eye Vet today and she will be getting glasses. I hope, when she can really see me, she still thinks I am precious. I will have to do some extra grooming and purr real sweet.

News

This morning blogger was down when I tried to post. Went to the Spokane Eye Clinic and got a good report. Tomorrow I am going to get fitted for glasses! Hopefully, I can get them the same day.

Mittens is all settled in. I have given her the bathroom and walk in closet for now. I will leave her in there for a little while. Patches missed her, and, although she can be so snarky to her, she asked to come in, and then gave her a kitty kiss; Mittens was happy to see her and gave her one back.

I have to make changes as far as feeding. Mittens special diet is just for her, and she can't have stinky goodness again (if it is truly a food allergy.) Patches is getting heavy, so maybe I will wean her off from it too. It doesn't seem fair somehow to give one and not the other. When Mittens comes out, all food will have to be put up and special feeding times adheared to. It is going to take some getting used to.

Thank You

What a wonderful group of people you all are. Thank you so much for being there for me, with all your wishes and helpful suggestions. I will be picking my girl up today at noon, PST; hopefully she will be able to tell you about her experience at that time. Check back later.

**UPDATE** 9:30 AM....The vet called, Mittens has been rehydrated. She will be given special food and anti-vomiting medicine, and her weight monitored. Time has been set for 1:30 PM PST to pick her up.

**UPDATE** Mittens here.....I am home! It is so good to be back in my furrever home and I am feeling much better. They poked and prodded me, checking my blood and my pee. My lady vet said it could be a viral infection, but probably hypersensitivity to food, so I am eating Purina EN and getting two doses of liquid meds a day. When Momma let me out of the carrier, I didn't even hide, like I usually do. I recognized my favorite place, the walk in closet. Momma had given my blue bed a washing and put a litter box in there for just me, with my food and water. She says I need to stay in here for a while; if she lets me out, she has to take Patches and Precious' food and put it up and I can't have any stinky goodness!!! But, the best part is, I am home!!

Mittens Isn't Well

Please send purrayers for Mittens. I am taking her to the vet. Hopefully, I can get in this morning. She has had a stomach problem on and off for the past 8 months, but it always has gotten better, until 6 days ago. Her other vet said "irritable bowel." I worry now it is more than that. She doesn't seem to keep food down (when she does eat) and isn't using her litter box (pain?) She spends 98% of her time sleeping in the closet. I will update, as soon as I know something. Thanks.

**UPDATE* 11:00 AM....I had to leave Mittens at the vet for blood work and possible other tests. They will call me later on today and I will let you know the results. Please keep her in your thoughts.

**UPDATE* 1:00 PM....Blood work looks good! Possible just a food allergy. Keeping her overnight and rehydrating her, giving penicillin and another antibiotic, change in diet. Yeah!!! Thanks for all the purrayers!!!

When........

When the leaves start falling from the trees
And Mistrie's fur grows thick and long
When the geese start leaving for the south
I know that summer's really gone.

Happy Toes

This is what Momma calls Happy Toes. You know, when you want to make biscuits, but there isn't anything handy to knead, so your toes just open and close. Here is a picture of Mistrie with the Happy Toes.

Cat Eyes

Look into my eyes
Do you see it?
The trust and love
Always there for you.

Look into my eyes
From there you see my heart
I am your faithful soul
Your feline friend.

Look into my eyes
Glass marbles of gold, blue, green
Do you see the love
Shining back at you?

It's Getting Cold

This is Hemlock Haven, where Gree and Mia and all the rest of you come, to visit Mistrie. You can see one of the insulated beds Momma made for her for wintertime (she has four beds, one more under the deck that is insulated, and two blankets high up in the wood of the woodshed, one on either end.) It has been freezing now at night, Momma say's Old Man Winter is coming soon.

Shots???

I heard Momma on the phone, talking about going to get rooster shots. She said something about micro-chipping, too. She told me that I had to be a good girl and go to T.E.D. today and get weighed, again. She says she hopes I have put on weight, although I am still a string bean. This picture was taken a month ago, before Momma had her surgery, so I look even better now!

Our Purrdays

Today is the day Momma set for our Purrdays/Gotchadays. (Me, Mittens, and Mistrie) Her eye still isn't good enough to throw us a party. That is OK, Momma; we know you loves us.
I am 9 years old, Mittens is 12. We have no idea how old Mistrie is.

Sunny Autumn Day

I am following the sunny spots around the house, purring on Momma, keeping an eye out for the little Munchkin, and taking care of all my other duties.

Yesterday, Momma took Precious outside and introduced her to Mistrie. They had some good kitty kisses, then Precious took off to explore. She loves it outside, but Momma made her come back in.

Eyes

If I look at Momma too much, my eyes go all funny looking, like her's. Most of the time I snuggle and purr on her.

Thanks to all you guys who stopped by and visited with us, purred for Momma, and visited with Mistrie. She had so much fun with you and is looking forward to seeing more of Precious. (Momma is going to introduce them when she can see better.) Precious is still in the bedroom, very lonesome because she won't come out in the cabin. (Probably because I growl and hiss.)

Momma says her eye will remain dilated for 10 days (the drops were very powerful according to the nurse) so her use is pretty limited; that, and her being very nearsighted since she was a little wafer. She wore hard contacts and is now going to go back to glasses, but has to wait to be fitted for at least three weeks (the good eye.) The corrected eye can take 2 to 3 months.

Sunday, October 01, 2006

Hello!!

CalicoMom here.

It has been a horrendous experience and I have a long way to go. My eye is still almost swollen shut and very red. It is still dilated for some reason, everything very blurry; but the Dr. said the hole was sealed! That is the important thing. I am able to look up some now, so thought I would update; and thank all of you for your wonderful comments. Thanks also to Missy (I got the package yesterday!) I am waiting until I feel better to give the girls the nip. Also thanks to Linda for the fev-vers!!!!

It will be a while before I can get glasses, so seeing is going to be a chore. I always wore hard contact lens and have decided to go to glasses. They say it may take up to three months before I can get the proper fit, and as nearsighted as I am, I just can't wait that long.

Thanks to all of you who teleported over. Funny, I could feel the presence of little furry bodies. Thanks to all of you for being my friend, for all the purrayers and good thoughts; it means so much.

Update 2

Thanks to everyone for all the good thoughts and well wishes, Calicomom really appreciated it. She had an appointment with her doctor today and he says everything is going well. It looks like the hole is completely sealed. She will have to keep her head down for at least another 4 days, maybe longer, though, so she won't be back for a while yet.

Update on Toni

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that Toni's surgery went very well. I will let her give the details, but she is doing fine. She and CalicoDad were headed for the camper to let Toni rest when I left them. We're not sure when she will be back blogging but we'll keep you updated.

Last Post For A While

Hi everyone.......

Well, tomorrow is the big day. Today I have a lot to do to get ready, washing clothes, cleaning, grocery shopping, litter boxes washed out, bedding changed, etc..

We decided to take our camper to Spokane and stay in it, in the parking lot, overnight. (Tuesday night) That way, after the surgery, we can just get in the camper and stay, rather than finding a motel room, as I have a follow-up appointment at 7:30 AM. Then, we will drive home Wed. morning. I imagine another appointment will be scheduled in 9 days.

My daughter-in-law is going to post updates for me.

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes and good thoughts. Special thanks to EdselsMom, who sent me the cutest calico stuffed kitty to cuddle, a book, a handpainted tiny card with a tuxedo and calico cat on it, some kitty grass for the girls, and a cat puzzle (1,000 pcs) for my husband, so he has something to do, besides listen to me whine. Also, Sue, in Loughton, England, who has been such a good friend, for many years. Thanks to Derby'sMom for the nice post and asking for purrayers. Thanks to the MeezerMom for the delightful card. Thanks to anyone I have missed....sorry, things are a bit hectic. You all have been unbelievable.

Talk to you all as soon as I can.

Anycat can come over anytime and visit. The girls look forward to the company, and so do I.

Things I Have Learned

I am still learning so much; but the following are some things I have learned, since moving into the cabin:

1. It is never too cold, too hot, wet, or windy.
2. I am never hungry or thirsty and I don't have to worry about bad animals or people.
3. There are things called "toys" to play with. One looks like a blue mouse with a bell on it's tail. I have never seen a blue mouse, let alone one with a bell on it's tail, have you? I have fun playing with it, though. I never knew about playing before, so I am learning. (Momma is teaching me.)

4. Momma likes to kiss me.
5. There are two other HUGE cats, in the cabin. There is another HUGE cat outside, who likes to peek in at me. I think she likes me. The other two whisper that I am trespassing on their turf. All I want to do is cuddle up with them.
6. Momma thinks my toes are cute, so I touch her face with them. Sometimes I show her how I make happy toes and purr to her. Now I have something to be happy and purr about!

7. I miss something, but I just don't remember, anymore, what it was. I guess, whatever it was, cuddled with me, because I miss cuddling with another furry body. I have a nice round bed I cuddle in, though.

I Belong!!!

Oh, I am so excited. I am now a real part of the Big Piney Woods Cats. Momma added my name to the email list, as well as to the profile; but best of all, I have a whole special section dedicated to me, with my picture, and story, in the sidebar. It makes me feel very special, a special Tiny Girl.

Not Fair

We had some company, but they didn't stay here, overnight. It is a good thing, as I am having to put up with this tiny, skinny, girlcat, who has taken over the bedroom and comes waltzing out at night, like she owns the place. I put the growl and hiss on her, but she just looks at me. Most of the time, she hangs on the end of the bed, but when the sun goes down, she prowls around. You can see my hair is simply standing on end. This is so not fair.

In Rememberance

Today is the anniversary of 9/11. It is a day to reflect on the terrible tragedy that happened to our country and our people. Our thoughts go out to all those who lost loved ones and friends, in this horrible disaster. It will always be on our minds. Our country will never be the same.

Kitty Angels

Max said the following in our comments, and we feel it is important for all to read.

"Buddah and I have been discussing this, because he's wanted to know about angels and such...I think angels come in all forms, and PK (she's gonna be PK to me, even if she is a Flower...) had angels in kitten form. She was obviously not feral and really needed a People, and her kittens made sure she got a People."

Max, thank you for this. Momma feels the same way about things. No, she sure wasn't feral, she was very tame and sweet. Momma is so glad she is the People, Precious Kitty found.

Gree's Visit

Gree came to visit Mistrie, in the Big Piney Woods, the other day. Mistrie was waiting in Hemlock Haven when Gree appeared. It was wonderful to see her oldtime friend. It was terrible hot, maybe some of you have read about all the forest fires in the Pacific Northwest. The smoke is terrible, it burned her eyes and made her sneeze. She got to peek in the window and see Precious, though! Just for a second, then she was gone back in her room. Thanks for coming Gree, come anytime! Momma says anycat can come and visit while she is recuperating from her eye operation.

Meant To Be

Thanks to all of you who supported me through the whole kitten episode, and have also said that, maybe, it was meant to be. Looking back and thinking about it, I think the kittens were calling me, telling me their momma needed help. That is why they disappeared right after I took her. It was a grand scheme, to save a cat who would otherwise have perished; bearing another litter in the cold, rain and snow of late November. A poor cat, still a kitten herself, whose fur was thin, her body ravaged, her spirit broken. Looking at her face, in the first pictures I took, I only see sadness and pain. Now looking at her, I see joy, happiness and fulfillment. She has already started to fill out!

I appreciate, so much, all of your comments. I wanted to get around to all of your blogs, but I simply haven't had the time. Please know, you all mean so much to me. Thanks, all of you. (The picture was taken the day I brought her home, she snuggled up to me.)

Final Kitten News

I have done everything I am physically able to do, to find and save the kittens. I have gone down day after day, many times two and three times, and sat and waited. All I ever saw was a well fed tabby. Because my eye surgery is fast approaching, I need to focus on that a little; also Precious, who is my number one priority right now. On my last and final journey down the path, to collect the dishes, I bid the kittens farewell, told them I loved them, and wished them well. ( I hope they never heard me.) I have a feeling, that with Momma gone, they ventured out on their own, possibly she was the reason they were hanging there. There are plenty of houses around, that the kittens could have gone to. I am hoping that is what they did.

I will never walk by the Corner Woods without a pang in my heart. I did what I could, I saved one life. Hopefully, this will inspire someone else to "save a life." I NEVER had any intentions of having more than two cats in the house, but one look at this tiny, bony, sick, girl and there was no doubt what the outcome would be. She went into the carrier so easily; she trusted me immediately. I love her so.

Feeling Neglected

Yes, I am upset. Yes, I am mad. There is a new kitty in the house. First, she was in the upstairs bathroom, yesterday, Momma moved her into the guest bedroom. Her belly is shaved and so is her neck and leg. Momma says she had surgery and I should be nice, but this is exactly what happened when Mittens came "visiting." She went in the bathroom first, then in the guest bedroom; the difference being, this girlcat is very outgoing, Mittens is a scairtycat.

Momma is trying to give me extra attention. I do sit on her lap a lot, and that is nice. Mittens is ignoring her, I suppose she thinks if she does this, she will just go away.
