Purrs Needed

My friend Sue, who lives in the UK and signs sometimes as English Daisy, needs your support, thoughts, and purrs for Little Felix, her outside tuxedo kitty.

She wrote me the following yesterday:

"Been out this morning, and came home to find the front kennel (where we left Little Felix asleep in when we went out) has been split in two, well the roof part, and one of my clay pots smashed to bits, and black fur all over the grass, and the inner bedding in the kennel all ruined. And no little Felix. I feel sick. I suspect she was sound asleep and somehow a dog found its way up there, though why a dog should be in our garden, and find the kennel which is hidden by large pot plants, I don't know. Can't find her anywhere, she isn't answering to our call, and the slate roof looks like it's erupted outwards from inside, so she was probably trapped inside it, woken by the dog and burst out through the roof, breaking the slate and shooting off the piece of timber across the top of the roof. Doesn't look like it's been broken by an animal landing on top of it. I just hope she isn't badly injured somewhere."

Here is a picture of the nice kennel they had built for her, safe and sound, next to the house. Little Felix is like our Mistrie, an outside cat, who would have it no other way.

*NOTE* Mom heard from Sue that Little Felix had been spotted on a wall, but is too scared to come close.

It's good to know Little Felix is still alive, and apparently not too badly injured. Come home, Little Felix -- beans and kitties all over the world are worrying.

Sending calming purrss to Little Felix.

Thank you for all your messages (read with tears pouring down my cheeks). We saw her briefly at 11.30 last night, but she wouldn't let us near. It's now 5.30 p.m. and no further sightings of her. I went in to the vets and asked for ideas and they said as she is "semi feral" there is nothing we can do - they think she might come home, but if this was her "safe territory" she won't feel safe here again. It took 18 months of her coming for food before we could stroke her, and now 2 years later she loved being stroked - but that was all, we have never been able to pick her up and hold her. I will let Calico Mom Toni have any news - but please keep purring for her. Even in just a day I miss her so much.

Poor baby! Don't give up hope, though--my mom rescued a semi-feral tom who'd been attacked by a pack of dogs. He'd been eating on the back porch when he was cornered and Mom heard the awful racket. She chased the dogs away with a BB gun shot in the air and they finally let him go (one had the cat in its jaws!). The cat hid way up a tree and wouldn't come down, and when my mom got home for lunch he was gone. She searched and searched and finally found him holed up in an abandoned old shack. (She was living in a fairly rural area at the time.) He was pretty shook up on top of having been injured, but Mom carried him home in a towel and let him recuperate in a room of his own. That cat (my mom named him "Little Brother") never forgot that kindness. Even when the stupid person who'd moved and left him to begin with came by and took Little Brother away, he'd always come back to Mom...even if it took him a week to get back home.

So the moral of that long story is 1. she may be hiding very well and 2. she won't forget you.

Purr, purr, purr, purr, purr.

Hope that Little Felix gets unscared so he will come back home. Are they sure it wasn't nasty beans that did that and not another animal?

oh my, we hope little Felix is okay and will come home soon. bein' an outside kitty is sometime kinda risky, but as you know with Mistrie, it's what she prefers.

Mom is a friend of English Daisy's Mum and just got this email:

"STOP PRESS NEWS ..... she just came back about half an hour ago (almost exactly 24 hours since we last saw her). Slow, nervous, hesitant, wary, My husband says she's walking stiffly - scared if we put our hands to her too fast, BUT she let us stroke her! And she ate. It's nearly 40 hours since she ate, so that was good - she's very subdued BUT SHE CAME. I couldn't tell in the dark if she has any injuries, although I tried to feel all over and she didn't flinch. It's very wet and a nasty night, so I don't know where she will go, but we are going to leave the porch light on all night in the hopes it might make her feel safe enough to stay here. I don't suppose she'll want to go in the kennel but there is another shelter (an upturned crate with a piece of carpet) which she sometimes used in the daytime - she could go in there if she wanted, but she might feel safer to go away."

... so at least we know she is OK and that she knows where it is safe.
