Precious Update 5

Precious continues about the same, no poop, but at least no bloody diarrhea and no vomiting. If she hasn't gone by this afternoon the vet is going to force feed her and then take another x-ray and try to find out what is going on. Her appetite is nil. I am hoping I can bring her home tonight, that something positive happens. Thanks for all your support and well wishes.

Barium is radioactive. Can they she do an X-ray, see where that barium is stuck?

I hope they discover what is going on. If the organs looked pushed to one side, maybe she has one huge blockage. A friend had a cat so clogged in hairballs, the bowel the uretor against the cats spine or pelvic bone, causing a urinary blockage between the bladder and exit, which was misdiagnosed almost fatally for the cat, whose bladder almost ruptured. One vet told me once I would see more deaths in cats from undiagnosed hairball blockages and parasites than from any other one cause, other than trauma.

There was a kitten once, these people had, with others, scheduled to be fixed, but it quit walking and eating. And right before it quit walking, the people said it walked like a cowboy been on a horse too long--bow legged. Took her in , vet felt something hard down near where the small intestine meets the large. Under anesthesia, relaxed, he was able to milk it through that valve. Was some chicken gristle a family member had fed the cats. She was fine.

I over fed another kitten chicken, because they loved it, But she ate way too much, ended up killing her, slowly too. Her bowel telescoped out and no food could move through. The vet thought it was worms at first. Her belly became huge. She stopped eating and when she went back to the vet, her rectum had turned blue from circulation cut off by the telecoping twisted bowel that was receiving by then no blood supply. It was too late and she had to be euthanized. I still feel guilty over that.

We are curious about where the barium shows up on an x-ray. Thats what the stuff is for, isn't it? We sure hope the vet sees barium poop soon!

Dr. Kellner just called and said the x-ray shows the barium is about to exit her colon. I thought of a hairball, but don't know that would cause the bloody diarrhea. She is long haired and has a lot of hairballs. She hasn't vomited again and, baring complications, she will be coming home tomorrow. They are still stumped.

Thanks for all your support!
