Patches Update

I took Patches to the vet thinking probably I would be saying goodbye. The vet said she was "on the fence with this one." Her ears, from the horrible thyroid meds she was so allergic to, are healing and her temp was down. These are both good signs. However, she is one sick kitty still. The vet also said it is possible all the meds aren't out of her system yet, her system has been through a lot and may take sometime to come back. This is only a MAYBE, but it was enough for me. She gave her fluids, B Vitamins and Steroids. I think all those kitty purrs worked. Thank you all!

  13. We are sending more purrs and healing energy to sweet Patches and are happy you are giving her more time to heal before making that decision. We know that you will know when the time is right for her to take her journey.

Regarding thyroid meds, our Tabbygail's thyroid levels were off the chart. Our vet and our TCM/acupuncturist came up with a combination dose of 2.5 mg of methimazole along with a TCM herbal formula, which worked very well to control her hyperthyroidism. It was good, too, because she didn't have to take as high a dose of the methimazole as she would have without the combination therapy. Unfortunately, she succumbed to an unrelated condition, but the thyroid issue was successfully managed.

  19. Mom Kim here: I don't know the whole details, but my Annie is hyper-t and I had a lot of trouble with the transdermal meds when she first started on them in Sep 2009. The problem was the base they were using, and *I* had to research it (Yahoo has a great feline hyper-t group) and discover that there's another base that can be used that is easier on the ears. So we switched compounding pharmacies and base for the methimazole.

That said, I DO have Annie's armpits and upper chest shaved periodically, so I can apply the meds there and give her ears a rest. The meds CAN be applied successfully to the armpit area or around the nipples--I suppose any area the cat can't get to, to lick it off.

I'm sending lots of Light to Patches and the fur family is sending purrs too.

    Peace.
